ECOFILLER is a linear polyethylene (LLDPE)-based granule compound containing coated and finely micronized calcium carbonate (CaCO3)

Filler Masterbatch

ECOFILLER

It is thus the result of mining engineering research combined with new properties of linear polyethylene. After years of experimentation ECOFILLER was put on the market both to increase economic benefits to users and to enhance mechanical properties. ECOFILLER can be added in percentages up to 30-40% to raw materials such as PE-PP.

Benefits

The addition of our ECOFILLERS to raw materials brings countless benefits such as:

Increased productivity in Kg/h;

Improved distribution at the die head and die exit;

Increased bubble stability;

Increased film/leaf planaria on the reel, less wrinkles and creases;

Increased interlayer adhesion in co-extrusion;

Increased mechanical properties;

Increased ease of sealing;

Increased ease of printing;

Reduction in “Melt” pressure;

Reduced power consumption (A) during extrusion;

Reduction in the use of dye masterbatch;

Considerable reduction in raw material cost;

Anti-blocking properties;

Reduction of deposits and fouling in the screw and extruder head;

Environmentally sustainable.

Increased production

Minerals are good heat conductors, conducting heat about 20 times faster than polymers.
In practice, by adding ECOFILLER to the base blend, there is easier thermal heating of the material in the extruder and faster cooling of the bubble; therefore, a significant increase in the extruder flow rate and an increase in the drafting speed; therefore, processing is facilitated. There is also a decrease in power consumption in the production of manufactured goods due to the reduction in the amperage drawn by the extruder motor during processing.

Increased Mechanical Properties

Adding about 10% to 20% of ECOFILLER increases impact strength in HDPE-LDPE films (from “Dart Drop” laboratory test). It also increases the tear strength in HDPE-LDPE films (from “Elmendorf – Tear Resistance” laboratory test). Excellent elongation properties are also maintained in LDPE films and HDPE films (from laboratory test “Tensile- Strenght”). Thus, using ECOFILLER will enable the thicknesses of manufactured products to be reduced, while still maintaining good physical and mechanical qualities.

Reduction of Raw Material Costs

Many manufacturers of packaging films use ECOFILLER with a view to reducing film thicknesses while maintaining the physical characteristics of the product, especially in the industrial packaging sector. However, the greatest “economic” benefit lies in the substantial price difference between ECOFILLER and all polyethylene resins. Therefore, according to the percentage of ECOFILLER used, the basic blend for the production of polyethylene films will have a substantial reduction in cost. In addition, the film produced with ECOFILLER will appear opaque. If a white or colored film is to be produced, the percentage of masterbatch used will be lower, thus reducing the costs attributable to coloring.

Sustainability

Calcium carbonate reduces the carbon footprint of plastics by reducing the use of petrochemicals, energy, and carbon footprint. The cost savings and performance benefits of replacing some plastic with calcium carbonate have been well known for many years. The characteristics of calcium carbonate concentrates allow polymers to heat and cool more rapidly, resulting in significant energy savings through improved productivity, higher yields, and faster film conversion. Manufactures made with calcium carbonate also offer significant environmental benefits, reducing the use of petrochemicals and energy during the manufacturing process and minimizing the carbon footprint and greenhouse gas impact of finished plastic products.
